A hands-on manual therapy; delivering a variety of bespoke treatment approaches - helping the body move better, feel better, and speak more clearly.
Osteopathy is one of those words that gets thrown around a lot in the equestrian world - but what does it really mean for both horse and rider?

For me, horse and rider osteopathy isn’t just about clicks, stretches, or posture. It’s about listening: to the horse’s body, their movement, and their subtle language. It’s about understanding what’s happening beneath the surface - and helping them find comfort, balance, and freedom again.
Whether I’m working with horses, dogs, or riders, the goal is the same: to restore natural movement, support the body’s own healing ability, and help each individual feel their very best.
The Principles of Osteopathy
Osteopathy is a manual therapy that focuses on how the musculoskeletal system, nervous system, and internal structures all work together. When there’s imbalance - due to injury, compensation, poor posture, or tension - movement is affected, and discomfort can follow.
Osteopathy uses hands-on techniques like:
Soft tissue release
Gentle joint mobilisation
Stretching and fascial work
Subtle adjustments and movement testing
The aim is not to force the body into change - but to create space and support so it can reset itself.
Listening to the Horse
What makes equine osteopathy truly special is that horses don’t fake it. They respond honestly and instantly to how they feel. They might not speak our language, but they’re always communicating - through their eyes, breath, weight shifts, and reactions to touch.
One of the most important parts of my job is to listen without judgement. Some horses are wary, stoic, or a little guarded - especially if they’ve been uncomfortable for a while. That’s okay. I meet them where they are, giving them the time and space to tell me what they need.
Whether it’s a subtle head turn, a softening breath, or a big release, these moments guide every session. It’s a two-way conversation. I simply listen with my hands - and respond with care.

So, What Is Osteopathy About?
Osteopathy is about:
Looking at the whole body, not just the symptoms
Understanding the story behind the problem, not just the site of pain
Supporting the body’s own healing, rather than overriding it
Helping horses (and their riders) move with ease, confidence, and harmony
But more than that - it’s about connection. It’s about seeing the individual in front of you, and working together to restore comfort, balance, and trust.
Osteopathy in Action
Whether you have a performance horse needing fine-tuning, a rehab case recovering from injury, or a horse who’s “just not quite right,” osteopathy can offer valuable support.
I also work with riders and dogs, because true performance and wellbeing come from both ends of the rein. Every part of the picture matters.
Final Thoughts
Osteopathy is gentle, effective, and deeply intuitive. It's more than just a treatment - it is a way of connecting with the body and supporting its natural rhythm and resilience.
And for me? It’s a privilege. Every session is an opportunity to listen, learn, and support the horses (and people) who give us so much.
